okay, maybe its a stretch. but i was heart-rendingly sad when i went back to the arboreteum last year(i have not lived in ann arbor for several years) and found a house full of snotty students, fences, beams, poles, plaquards, and a bunch of metal things in my very favorite magical secret hideaway spot! i Understand that the evergreen trees got diseased and there was nothing anyone could do about that- and i rememebr when my very favorite tree of all was struck down in the night by a bolt of lightening(and i remember too walking amongst its charred shattered remains). These things are natural occurances. . . . . .but jesus h christ, couldn't they have left the rest of it ALONE?!

A n old, old friend was with me, and we talked about the death of Benign Neglect- the very soft and friendly force of good sense which made the arboreteum the wonderful place it was to me in high school, college, adn early adult life. I hope they haven't stopped the man who builds the great stone heart in the river-- i hope, i hope, i HOPE that they at least left HIM alone! Is nothing in the world left untouched by greedy opportunists trying to make a name for themselves these days?

sorry for any "bad vibes"- but please, if you still live there, do all you can to stop those people from destroying anything more!

What a day! I was sitting in the shade reading when a hawk flew right up into the tree above me calling out. Amazed, I snapped a bunch of pictures and took an audio recording of the calls. No sooner did I put my camera down when a mama deer stepped out of the brush followed by three spotted fawns. I watched her watching me, grazing timidly while the fawns played. My first time seeing deer in the arb. I heard there used to be a lot more of them but I figure the fragmented corridors for the most discourage them?
I want to welcome Annie and Matt to the arb tribe and to tribe. I ran into them in the arb on saturday and now here they have joined the tribe.

Third, I will be leaving ann arbor and the beautiful arb after two years. I hope to be out with my camera and get some photos of the Huron river before I go.

this place is great. to no end, a physical jewel of Ann Arbor. I enjoy how it is tucked away by the river and to the east of the hosipital. infact, i'll say it is the armpit of ann arbor, and you'll just have to take any negative associations of armpits and re-think them, cause the arb rules! Anyone know much about its geologic history? I've heard it is glacial outwash and the hills are glacier moraines.. anyone have more to share on that note?

just found out about this entire site, and this was the first tribe I found. I grew up 2 blocks from the arb, and it truly was a great place. Had many great firsts there (sledding, hook-ups, extra-curricular experiences)...my parents don't live there anymore, but whenever I come through Ann Arbor, I try and make it over there...
